Naturopathic Care for Digestive Imbalances
If you've been living with bloating that shows up no matter what you eat, unpredictable digestion, uncomfortable gas, indigestion after meals, constipation that never fully resolves, or a gut that seems to react to everything, you're not alone. Digestive concerns are one of the most common reasons people seek naturopathic care, and they're often more complex than a single food or a single fix.
I'm Amanda Cressman, a Naturopathic Doctor in Waterloo, Ontario. I work with people across Kitchener-Waterloo, and online across Ontario, who are navigating digestive imbalances and want to actually understand what their body is trying to tell them.
What you might be experiencing
Digestive symptoms look different depending on the person, but common presentations include:
-
Bloating, especially after meals or as the day goes on
-
Gas that's uncomfortable, painful and odorous
-
Indigestion, reflux, or a sense of food sitting for too long
-
Constipation, incomplete bowel movements, or long stretches without going
-
Loose stools, urgency, or unpredictable bathroom patterns
-
Cramping or abdominal discomfort tied to eating or stress
-
Suspected or diagnosed dysbiosis (an imbalance in gut bacteria)
-
Suspected or diagnosed SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth)
-
Disorders of gut-brain interaction (DGBI), including IBS
-
A growing list of foods that seem to "not work"
-
The feeling that stress and digestion are somehow tangled together, because they are
These symptoms are real, and they often affect more than the gut. Sleep, mood, energy and skin can all be impacted as well as how you feel about eating.
How I work with digestive imbalances
My approach is to look at the whole system, not just the symptom. The gut is deeply connected to the nervous system, hormones, immune function, and daily habits, so understanding why your digestion is behaving the way it is usually matters more than reaching for the first supplement or elimination diet.
That starts with time: asking questions, listening, and mapping what your digestion actually looks like day to day, meal to meal.
Where it's helpful, I use blood work and lab testing to look at markers like inflammation, nutrient status, thyroid function, and other pieces that can quietly influence digestion. In some situations, more specialized testing can add meaningful information. Testing isn't always necessary, but it's available when it adds real understanding.
From there, I build a plan that's realistic and grounded, usually a combination of:
-
Targeted nutrition and dietary strategy (not a permanent restriction list)
-
Support for the gut-brain axis and the nervous system
-
Botanical and supplement support where it makes sense
-
Attention to sleep, stress, and daily rhythms
-
Ongoing adjustments as your body responds
We don't add ten new things at once. We start with what matters most, seeing how your body responds, and adjusting from there.
What care looks like
A first visit is 60 minutes, long enough to hear your full digestive story, including what you've already tried. Follow-up visits are shorter and focused on what's shifting, what needs adjusting, and what your body is now telling us.
Appointments are available in-person in Waterloo or online across Ontario by video or phone, whichever fits your life. Lab requisitions, supplement recommendations, and follow-up plans are all handled through a secure online portal.
Is this a fit for you?
This kind of care tends to suit people who:
-
Want to understand why their digestion is behaving the way it is, not just quiet it
-
Have already tried elimination diets, over-the-counter fixes, or online protocols and want a more integrated approach
-
Want a real person to think alongside them through the process
-
Are open to gradual changes that build on each other
What success actually looks like
It's that you leave understanding your body better than when you arrived, knowing what your digestion is communicating, what soothes it, what provokes it, and how to work with your gut instead of against it. Digestive health is rarely linear, and having language and awareness for your own patterns is often the more lasting win.
